Financial and economic abuse are a form of domestic abuse and anyone can be a victim.

It's where someone you have a relationship with restricts your financial freedom, for example, stopping you from accessing your own money, running up debts in your name, or making it harder for you to work or study.

This doesn’t only mean a romantic partner – it could also be a family member, parent, carer or friend.

In an emergency

  • Call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247. This is a free 24 hour service.
  • If you’re in immediate danger, call the police on 999
  • Remember the Silent Solution System. If you are unable to speak when the operator answers, press 55 to make them aware you are in danger and can’t speak.
  • We want to make sure you can access our services in a way that's best for you. Our Accessibility page is full of information to help you use our online services in the right way for you.
If you're worried about rising costs, you're not alone. Our Cost of Living guide has lots of information to help, from how to avoid energy scams to help with budgeting.

We also work with a number of charities and organisations who offer free, independent advice.
